Many people who suffer from gastritis are interested in knowing whether it’s safe for them to drink decaf coffee. Gastritis is an inflammation of the stomach lining which can lead to abdominal discomfort, a burning sensation, nausea, and vomiting. Since coffee is known to be an irritant, it’s natural to think that someone with gastritis should stay away from drinking it all together. But the fact is, there are some cases in which a person can drink decaf coffee without it worsening the symptoms of the condition.

Generally speaking, decaf coffee is considered relatively safe for people with gastritis. Even though decaffeinated coffee still contains a small amount of caffeine, it’s much lower than what you’ll find in regular coffee. So from an acidity standpoint, it doesn’t tend to cause as much of an issue.

However, the amount of caffeine in decaf can still have an impact on gastritis symptoms. In order to reduce the chances of this happening, it’s best to opt for the darkest roast available. This type of coffee is significantly less acidic and will be gentler on the stomach lining. And it’s important to limit your coffee intake to no more than two cups per day.

It’s also wise to drink decaf coffee with milk and to add other ingredients such as honey or cinnamon. This helps to reduce the acidity level and makes the beverage easier to digest. Additionally, it’s best to drink decaffeinated coffee during the day instead of at night, as it can disrupt your sleep.
